A different beat
Jessie Willams is a sixth grade student at Oakland Performing Arts Middle School. After a prejudice remark from her teacher, Jessie begins to believe that people do not like the color of her skin. She is forced to take on a large assignment with her ultimate rival Addie Mea. Her schedule is jam packed, but if she dosn't keep her grades up, she will be forced to return to her old middle school.

Never Judge A Book By It's Title!!!
This book is about a young dark - skinned girl, named Jessie, who was having a lot of problems everywhere she went and she was withholding her anger. At school, she has had her feelings two years ago by a light skinned teacher, Mrs. Grant, who misjudge Jessie. Jessie had overheard Mrs. Grant say something to another teacher along the lines of... "I can't believe the William's girls are sisters. Cassandra was one of the prettiest black girls I have ever taught, and one of the smartest. That beautiful long, glossy hair, and white skin. It's hard to believe that Jessie is her sister. She's so dark and plain. Not even that smart- such a disappointment after Cassandra." ... That really hurt Jessie's feeling especially since she admired Mrs. Grant. I think everyone did up until Jessie recently let the secret out to her family. which was a big relief to Jessie because Jessie has been wating to confront Mrs. Grant, not only will Jessie be able to confront Mrs. Grant but also she has her family there for her.
Jessie's next problem is her group at school, a group of four who has to work on a major project and their is this one girl who an attitude, Addie Mae Collins and everytime the girl gets mad she changes her name, as of now her name is Addie Mae Copper. Copper is snotty and she thinks she knows everything.
At home there is nothing much to discuss outside of Mamatoo, Jessie's maternal grandmother, has always had open arms to cuddle Jessie and map of wisdom to lead Jessie. Cass {short for Cassandra} is always telling her boyfriend, Joe what to do. Well he wanted her now he has her.
Jessie's father, Mr. Williams, a light-shinned man, who worked at the bookstore. He was hard on Jessie and he would not let her work in the bookstore, nor do any extra curricular activty. She is lucky to be going to OPA {Oakland Performing Arts} Middle School. That is all extra-curricular activity that she is going to get.
Later Mrs. Grant still didn't apologize, sha played hard to get....
....Addie Mae Collins acted the way she did because she no one at home to pay her any attention, but she had a lot of talent. Addie was just reaching out for help and got it.
....Joe is still being bossed around by his girlfriend, Cassandra.
....Mamatoo still gives out good advise.
....The fours major project went very well, Corrine James. a famous person who was tired of being famous had let Jessie do part of her project on her and presnet her. Then Jessie present Addie Mae Copper and the story behind her name and how she was named after her cousin who died in Mississippi in a church that was caught on fire.
....Jessie's light - skinned father, who let her light -skinned sister and light - skinned Addie Mae work in the store just didn't want dark - skinned Jessie's grade to fall behind for the simple fact that dark children are labeled dumb and none of his daughter will ever be labeled dumb.
....Jessie is relieved, she has got all of that off her chest and an A with the Fours project and two new friend who have revealed their past history to sociey.
....

A Review of Fall Secrets
i thought that the book was really good. the author made it seem that she was talking about someone she knew, maybe herself as a child, or even someone that she knows. the reason that i gave it a 4 was because the pacing could have been slower, it just went by so fast. as soon as i started to read the book i couldn't put it down. i got so into the book that i felt like i was one of the characters in the book. i know that this is more realistic than unrealistic because everything that was going on a lot could relate to or had gone through something like that. i would recommend this book to anyone who is a teenager.

Booklist has no clue of urban and real life (Want the real)
To me(my opinion because I'm entitled to it) This book was very good and the fact that it has many things going in it is because that's how a real urban girl thinks. Boyd was coming from inside Jessie head and the world and how she sees it. Including her attractions and crushes to boys. In my opinon this book was a good CLEAN version of real urban life. Like it or not I really don't care.

Adults and teens will realy love this book.
This book is very realistic when it comes to the problems of self image and siblings. I can't what to read the companian to this book.

Scandalous Weddings
Published in Mass Market Paperback by St. Martin's Press (December, 1998)
Authors: Brenda Joyce, Jill Jones, Barbara Dawson Smith, and Rexanne Becnel
Average review score:

Not crazy about the title of the book
The Rexanne Becnel story, LOVE MATCH, is the best of the four. The hero's sister elopes with the heroine's brother. Nice, quick read, good development of the characters.
BEAUTY AND THE BRUTE by Barbara D. Smith was the next best, but I felt the story went on too long and the heroine had the patience of a saint. A WEDDIN' OR A HANGIN' by Jill Jones was marginal because I felt that the feuding between the clans wasn't believeable. I did not like Brenda Joyce's story, IN THE LIGHT OF DAY, at all.

The Becnel story alone makes it worth the price!
Very entertaining and romantic

Each author combines talent to make a book that brings joy!
Bravo! I set an all time record for completing a paperback. This is a wonderful book for those of us who feel good when we read romance. This book will leave you wanting to read more titles from the authors. I strongly recommend this book.

The creekers hit new york!
I liked this book i thought the Jen and Joey story line was great but the dawson story line wasnt vewry interesting and the Pacy one was non existant! He was just thrown in here and there. But this was made up by the Jen and Joey one. This book has a different atmosphere to the other dawsons creek ones i think thats because its set in new york so it goes from quiet Capeside with the usuall dawson and Joey solemates story lines which are still there but there not the whole story, to all new ones. I think thats wg=hat makes this book good.

Cool!
God,this book was awesome. It would be great for an episode.

It would be a great episode!
This book would make a great episode! Joey was almost happy! It was the first time that you could really see how desperate Dawson is, and how persistant Jen is to win Joey as a friend. Tihs book provides all of the usual conficts of a "too old" group of teens. I would recomend it!

Dawson's Creek

It Is Worth It.........
This was the first Dawsons's Creek fan book that I have read in a while. And, to tell you the truth. It was ok.

This book included cast biographies, character bios, music featured in the show, and a episode guide. Yes, those are all esentials when buying a book guide, but this didn't really go in depth.

I see that people have priased this book in some reviews, but I think that those are the hard-core Dawson's Creek fans. For 10$, this bok is worth it if you want to waste your money.

Granted, this included A LOT of color photos, but can't you just go on the net to look at them?

If you guys really want to find a Dawson's Creek guide that is worth the money you pay for it, I suggest you go out and buy "Dawson's Creek, THE OFFICIAL COMPANION" by Darren Crosdale. This book includes in depth descriptions of all the episodes, has a character breakdown, and other interesting things you probaby didn't know about the show.

I suggest that you think twice before investing money in "Dawson's Creek" by Lisa Degnen.

Wow!!!!!! I love this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that this book was great. There was a lot of information on every character so anyone can read it. The book is a hard cover and had all the pictures in color. The good thing is that it is hard cover and won't tear that easily. So go get it now.

it is awesome
i like it alot it has intresting stuff in it.the hardcover is better than the paperback books because they won't tear the cover as easyly

Wonderful description to experience God
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ !!!
I was saved 14 years ago. At that time as a middle school student, I experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit while I was in the prayer meeting in the end of the day of Church summer training. At the right time, I did not noticed what had happened to me and I could not understood God was trying to talk to me. Around 10 year later since then, I was able to pray every day morning to receive answer for my desperate life problems, and during my praying time, I came to convince that God have been continuously trying to speak to me. God showed his evidences so that I may not ignore His voice and signs any more. Samuel , the author of 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, could answer to God after 3 times of God's call. But for me it took more than 10 years. Before I read this book, I myself had similar experiences as the Mrs. Joy wrote in this book. I was not sure what is the exact spiritual meaning is. Before I read the books of Mrs Joy, I made progress in the knowledge of the Spirit day by day very little. And as a result. I start to undertand a little part of spiritual things described in bible, by Jesus, Paul, prophets of old testament. The slow speed was majorly because I did not make enough memo and prayer concerning the all things which was happened to me. Now I think Mrs. Joy started and established good foundation to start our fellowship and talking with God, Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, who was known as Triune God or God the trinity. I have lots of things to exchange concerning the topics of Mrs. Joy's books.
...

This book changed my life!!!
I have been a christian for a long time. Never have my eyes been more opened, nor have I seen so clearly what the fear of the Lord truly means. I have longed for true intimacy with God for years. But until I read this book I always felt he was so far away, intangible and therefore I was unable to really, truly comprehend His love. Joy's book helped bring to life the true love of God and how much he desires intimacy with us all. The fear of the Lord? The age old interpretation couldn't be more wrong. All of this book blessed me, parts encouraged me and yet others convicted me. At times I felt such conviction I would look at it and not be able to pick it back up until I set right the cause of my conviction. What a powerful book! Every christian who truly seeks intimacy with God, should read and reread this book!

The Wedding Ransom

A Little too Sappy Sweet for Me...
Although I enjoyed the reading about the history of Texas and the exotic places in the book (they are some of my favorites too), this book was just too predictable and syrupy sweet for my tastes. It was an easy, light read and the characters at least weren't so hard headed you wanted to kick them, but things just wrapped up too nicely at the end. I guess , I've been reading too many mysteries and romantic suspense novels to appreciate this book. The only thing I wish she would have explained(being a Texan myself), is how Luke Prescott went to the Alamo and survived? Maybe that was explained in the first novel , "A Wedding Raffle", which I haven't read.

I Loved it!!
Geralyn Dawson's The Wedding Ransom is truely heart warming story. "Gentleman" Rafe Malone is a fantastic hero and at one time he was the slickest theif in Texas. I've never seen anyone with four grandfathers and each one has a personality of their own. This book is heart warming, lovely, and with some funny scenes added into make a light hearted read that you won't want to put down.

Wonderful blend of romance and humor!
Gentleman Rafe Malone comes from the pages of "The Wedding Raffle" as the sexy, quirky former thieving friend of Luke Prescotts and starts his own brand of heat when he meets Mary Margaret St. John in this wonderful sequel to "Raffle". And yes, Luke, Honor and the funny Luella return in "Ransom".

I believe the author, Geralyn Dawson, is going to keep weaving her magic until she's in the top ten list of romance writers. She just gets better and better!

Ok book
I wanted to hear this book because Maddie, the main character, had thesame situation as I did (about our fathers). I didn't really like this book because it was a little boring. The book was about a girl that wanted to buy her mom a gold pin, but she didn't have a lot of money. Her mom would say things like this "Take off that red shirt your dad gave you," and the girl wore it all the time because her dad died and she liked it so much. she wrot an essay to win money for her moms pin. In a way I liked it only at the beginning because it made me want to read it more. I really don't know what the meaning of the book was. It could have been a real story because it felt really realto me. It is a sad story but it can have cheerful times too, and that's whatmade me hear more of that book. I give this book 3 stars because it made me feel like I was actually in the story, and it had a lot of wonderful parts , but it was little boring.

A Book About Family and Love
The main characters in this book are Mattie Benson, Matt Benson (Mattie's twin brother), and Ms. Benson. After Mattie's father died her family was never the same. Her mother was always working late and was hardly ever home. When she was home she was usually tired or in a very bad mood, and she rarely had time for her kids. As time passed things were getting worse and Mattie noticed that her mother was being put under more and more stress everyday because of her job. Mother's Day is coming soon and Mattie really wants to get her mom the perfect gift: a gold pin. She believes this perfect gift will be what it takes to bring her family back together for sure. Mattie runs into some trouble while trying to buy the gift for her mother: for one thing she doesn't have enough money. But that doesn't stop her, and in the end she finds out that she has actually given her mother and brother more than she could ever imagine, something a lot more precious than a gold pin.

A super book
I am 8 years old. I really hate reading, but when I read this book it gave me ideas about how you can imagine you being mat, matthew, mama, papa and of course MATTIE. She is the big sister and has a friend named Toni...and they are really cool! You will like this book.

Sizzle All Day
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Sonnet Books (29 August, 2000)
Author: Geralyn Dawson

The characers are fun and they stay with you...
This clever story had a really appealing hero and heroin -- the hero being especially charming. It had the kind of characters who linger in your mind for a few days after you finish the book. There were plenty of witty moments, I did laugh out loud once or twice, and although it wasn't the steamiest romance that I've read, it did have some sexy scenes that were well done. The 'Texas meets Scotland' thing kept the story really playful. Mostly, I loved the 'love story' in this book.

A Fun Romp from the Mistress of Romantic Humor
As a fan of the romance mass market industry one the reasons it is so popular is the vast variety in sub-genres; there is something for everyone and almost every month. As both reader and reviewer I enjoy mostly Historicals set in Scotland or with a Scottish hero/heroine. However, not a great fan of Americana historical books, I especially shy away from any book with a Texas setting or hero; over the top seems to be the accepted norm. Well you can imagine my delight/dismay to find both in Geralyn Dawson's exceptional new romp, SIZZLE ALL DAY. Never one to back away from a challenge I plunged into this sequel to SIMMER ALL NIGHT and I am so very glad I did.

Jake Delaney wants his own life. His sister is married to his best friend and when he has found one of the few remaining copies of the Texas Declaration of Independence, his life will at last be his own. He wants to travel and experience all the world has to offer a carefree single man. His mother's trip to England, her place of birth, has afforded him the opportunity to do just this when it is rumored a copy of this document is to be found in Scotland. Escaping to Scotland has an added benefit: a chance to escape his mother's constant attempt at matchmaking. His only companion in the wilds of Scotland is the wee pup affectionately named, Scooter, who has lost the use of it's hind legs.

Gillian Ross and her family at Rowanclere Castle in Scotland are struggling to find a way out of their financial woes. It is Gillian's responsibility now that her one love affair has gone sour, her twin sister is married and very pregnant, a younger sister and an aging uncle depend on her for care. Much to her regret it seems only sensible to sell the castle, the only stable home since her parents death. The problem is the only one perspective buyer desires the castle but only if comes with it's own resident ghost. Much to her dismay it seems theirs is surely the only one in Scotland that doesn't have one. So what is lass to do: create one with results sure to have the reader in stitches.

Jake arrives at Rowanclere Castle under the false pretense of doing research. Through this research he plans to get the document and be on his way. However, his arrival seems the perfect opportunity for Gillian to set her ghostly plan into motion. As luck would have it, certainly the special kind of luck brilliantly created by Ms Dawson, both Jake and Gillian have the tables turned on them with delightfully humorous and intensely sensual results. But all these antics take on a curious twist when Jake's mother turns up at the castle as the special friend of the expected buyer. Each is disturbed by the outcome of this arrival with results that will test them to the limit much to the delight of the reader.

There will be much laughter for the reader in this tale but even more poignant scenes sure to bring on the reader's tears, so have the tissues ready. What works so well for this delightful romp is the strong sense of duty both Jake and Gillian have to others at the risk of their own desires. This is made possible by the excellent care with which Ms Dawson has researched and developed the plot: she blends the brashness of a Texan with the age old steadfast stubbornness of a Scottish lass effortlessly. Add this to the incredibly sensual stirrings each feels for the other as they struggle to find a way to have what is their heart's desire. One can only wonder what their offspring might be like.

As this very special journey moves toward its climax one gets a strong yet unexpected sense of a "Gift of the Magi" scenario unfolding as Gillian and Jake each tries to give the other their heart's desire even when it means their own will be devastated by the loss. Ms Dawson, a seasoned storyteller, knows readers expect a "happily ever after", but she makes both her couple and ultimately the reader work for it. Being in touch with reader's expectations is what sets a Geralyn Dawson romance apart. Ultimately because of these unique talents, she is able to provide a tale so overwhelmingly special it will be found on many of this year's "best of " lists.

SIZZLE ALL DAY is sure to charm readers as the mists of the Scotland are bewitchingly pierced by the twang of a most seductive Texan. However, run don't walk to your book seller because SIZZLE ALL DAY along with SIMMER ALL NIGHT are sure to fly off the shelves and you don't want to be left without your copy when the dust clears.

Jody Allen, Romancing the Celtic Soul

High Spirited
Sizzle All Day, the continuation of characters introduced in Simmer All Night, is a laugh-out-loud romance that combines the heart of Texas with the magic of Scotland.

Jake Delaney is continuing the hunt for the missing copies of the Texas Declaration of Independence. When the search leads the Texan into a cold Scottish summer, Jake is only too happy to escape the heat of his mother's insistence he find a bride. Now that his sister has married and his mother is safely tucked away into English society, Jake is determined to avoid the alter and travel the world. What the Texas lawyer didn't plan on was the interference of brownies, faeries, and goblins.

Gillian Ross is determined to care for her mischievous little sister and her bristling great uncle now that her twin is happily married and very pregnant. To sell the castle and help her loved ones, Gillian sets out to practice haunting the castle. She believes the visiting Texan could provide an excellent, albeit unknowing, audience for her dress rehearsal until her celestial debut exposes a little more than the castle's ample history.

Geralyn Dawson creates a light, charming banter between the characters. The dialogue is a musical combination of a melodious brogue and a slow, southern drawl. The refreshing presence of characters who are willing to laugh at themselves ease the reader into laughter and enjoyment of the creative passion shared between them.

Although Sizzle All Day lacks the suspense and intrigue used throughout Simmer All Night, its originality helps to better express the difference between the siblings, and compliments Dawson's ability to refrain from using formulas. I'd love to read another book explaining what happened to Gillian's brother. I'd also adore meeting the matches Dawson could create for Robbie and for Gillian's great uncle.

Sizzle All Day is a must read for anyone looking for a high spirited read and a memorable culture clash.
